is an architectural installation for a new development in Seattle, Washington. It pushes the boundaries of hand-built wooden sculpture with its size, and complexity. A massive technical challenge and learning experience for me as a young designer.
I am forever grateful to Brent and Harry for taking a chance on me and giving a third-year design student so much responsibility and agency in such a major project.

45+ custom laminated sections
200+ internally wired LED lights
Total length over 23m
24 individual roots reaching lengths of 4m each

Working from technical drawings, renders and a 3D model we mapped the length, direction and thickness of each root section in 3D space

Once ready we would set our lamination jig to bend each section, on all three axes, into its unique customized shape.

After each section was dry they were shaped on one side to create the effect of a solid cylindrical root splitting into individual tendrils

Once shaped, they were lifted into the larger structure and attached. With each section's shape, location and direction informing that of the next.

The final installation was captured on video by When They Find Us
