Bao is a vessel that transforms from a portable food container into a dining space for meals enjoyed away from home.
Trying to find the right fabric, shape and closure method was an exercise in prototyping...
An early iteration was created by placing holes in the corners of the base fabric square. Folded into the center one could be slipped through the other and act as a carrying handle.
The Fold
With holes placed in the corners of the fabric wrap, one can be pulled up through the others upon closure and used as a handle.

The Carry
Leaning into the wooden accessory to create structure and facilitate use, the carry has a handle wooden insert that can act as a tray when removed.

Last but not least the Bao. This is where the tube closure was perfected and size of the fabric peice was refined

With a similar carrying method to the fold, the slide uses a wooden ring to compress the fabric around the contents within.

Moving back to more a classic shape, the bag was the original host to the sliding tube method of closure.
